Renewal of Religious Consecration

Seminarians renew vows

Sunday, May 26, was the anniversary of St. Louis Guanella’s ordination (1866). It was also a memorable and emotional day for our Province, the Divine Providence Province. On that day, 52 seminarians renewed their vows or professed for the first time. 25 in Chennai, India; 22 in Bangalore, India; 3 in Rome, Italy; and one in Manila, Philippines. In India, despite the persecution, discrimination and violence against Christians, there is still hope for vocations to the priesthood and religious life. We also hope for Guanellian vocations in the northern states of Andhra Pradesh, Orissa and Chhattisgarh. Religious consecration is an answer to the infinite love of God the Father. All the confreres renewing their consecration that day are young men in their twenties, an age of energy and promise. They are responding to God’s love by offering their youth. Our Provincial, Father Soosai Rathinam, accepted their vows with an inspired message on the anniversary of the Founder’s ordination. “Our religious Life” he said “is not a benefit, it is a commitment; a commitment to sacrifice, as in the legacy of the Founder: prayer and sacrifice.”
