Pune – Fr. Samson joined the rectors of all major seminaries in India who gathered for the 13th Annual Meeting hosted by the Conference of Catholic Bishops of India Commission for vocations, Seminaries, clergy and Religious on the topic of “Envisioning Priestly Formation in India Today.” 73 rectors were present for the meeting led by Bishop Thomas Vazhapally, chairman of the commission and Bishop of Mysore. A survey of over 1000 seminarians and 300 formators was completed before the meeting and the results were presented; giving birth to a new type of ‘Graded Formation’ which covers the various levels such as Human, Spiritual, Intellectual and Pastoral Formation. The importance of lay participation and professional counseling as part of formation was also much emphasized. The possibility of having spiritual mothers in spiritual direction was also encouraged. Many other topics were covered; formator-formee relationship, freedom, conducive atmosphere, code of conduct and ongoing formation of the formators, dress code of brothers in parish ministry, day of silence, and gender sensitivity.
