February 11, 2013, 21st World Day of the Sick

Guanella Beato 20This day recognizes the sick and health care workers who, above all, are very dear to the Guanellian realities of our mission. St. Louis Guanella developed his apostolate in defense of life, from conception to its natural end. He was attracted by the suffering, the sick, unwanted, neglected and unloved; for him non-beauty had become a visible beauty because they bore the stigmata/transparent image of the Crucified Jesus. May our Lady of Lourdes become a place of hope and grace and let us cultivate the attitude of the Good Samaritan “Go and do likewise” for those who are in need!

New Birth in Christ

Saigon – The Servants of Charity do a different apostolate each weekend. On second Sundays they help the aged, some of whom are affected with HIV, by celebrating Mass with the parish priest and doing little things for them after Mass. Some of them are Catholic and some are not, but even the non-Catholics participate in the pious practices. Fr. Jerin had his first opportunity to celebrate the sacrament of Baptism in Vietnam. A non–Catholic lady in that house wanted to become a daughter of Christ. With the permission of the parish priest, Fr. Jerin baptized her on Aug 18, 2012. She was given the name ‘MARIA’. Many of these elderly people want to die in Christ. Thank God that He continues to drag their souls to Him.
