See and Learn

Chennai – On July 19th the ‘See and Learn’ program was scheduled. About 35 special children and the staff journeyed to Besant Nagar, Our Lady of Good Health Church, St. Antony Church, Palavakkam and Athistalakshimi Temple at Chennai. The purpose of this program is to give faith formation to children. Fr. S.A. Lourduraj led the journey by explaining the purpose of this visit and they also made time for the children to enjoy relaxation of the mind. The program ended with the blessings and good experience of the children. Don Guanella Special School was happy to welcome Fr. Soosai as he made his canonical visit. After the visit Fr. Samson, community superior, and all the staff gathered for the reading of the school project and the fraternal sharing of the mission. The Provincial gave a motivational address on how a Guanellian educator should differentiate from a secular way of educating the good children. At the culmination of the meeting, the school staff presented the new proposals for the development of the school. With the celebration of Mass the canonical visit successfully came to an end and all shared a fellowship meal.

On Foot to Our Blessed Mother

Chennai - Pilgrimage 2Chennai – In the month of Mother Mary’s birth, brothers from Don Guanella Major Seminary went on a pilgrimage to the Marian shrine at Besant Nagar. On September 3rd, one of the novena days, the brothers walked the shrine. They stopped for breakfast at St. Patrick’s Church at the foot of St. Thomas Mount. After walking thirty kilometers through Porur, Adiyar and Gandhimandapam, the group reached the shrine and Fr. Francis, vice rector, offered Holy Mass; praying for our congregation with the faithful gathered there. Brothers each offered a Rosary to the Blessed Mother. The long walk, prayers offered to Mary, and the Eucharistic celebration nourished the brothers spiritually and brought many blessings to our congregation in this centennial year of the Founder’s birth into heaven.

Seminarians walking to shrineChennai – The brothers from Don Guanella Major Seminary went to the shrine of Our Lady of Good Health, Besant Nagar, on September 19th, the month of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The pilgrimage began with a prayer by Fr. Rajesh in front of the Grotto. They set out on foot towards the Shrine, located about 30 KM away from DGMS, with enthusiasm praying the rosary, singing hymns to Mother Mary and praying the litany. Despite the heat, the divine energy and Grace of God urged them on. Upon arrival, they realized the presence of Mary throughout the journey and all fatigue was relieved. The pilgrimage culminated with Mass celebrated by Fr. Rajesh.

Crowds of Faitthful at Besant Nagar ShrineChennai – On September 6, 2012 students of Theology from Don Guanella Major Seminary went on a walking pilgrimage with Rev. Fr. Adaikalam and Fr. Rajesh to Besant Nagar Marian shrine. The group left at 6:00am and reached their destination around 11:00am; reciting the rosary, singing hymns and expressing their devotion to our Lady along the way. Upon arrival, Holy Mass was celebrated as a community and prayers offered to all the devotees thronging in the various Marian shrines. This pilgrimage is arranged to grow in devotion to Mary and to be in solidarity with thousands of pilgrims walking to the Velankanni shrine in the Nagapattinam District of Tamil Nadu.
