Chennai – On January 15th Don Guanella Evening School celebrated Pongal, a festival that is very popular in Tamil culture. This harvest festival unites all people. The teachers prepared them to celebrate the Pongal with traditional cultural programs. The students were very happy in their colorful dresses of Tamil Culture and eager to express their talents in celebration of Pongal. All the traditional preparations were made: colorful Kolam, the decorated pot for the pongal meal and sugarcane sticks beside the pot brought forth the neutrality of the festival. Fr. Ronald, Provincial Superior, Dn. Paul Dhinakaran and the chief guest Fr. Adaikalam were presented for the event. Fr. Ronald began with a prayer, blessed the Pongal meal and it was distributed to all in a traditional way. The cultural programs of the children were performed very well, gladdening everyone’s heart. Prizes were distributed by Fr. Adaikalam to the winners of the event. His speech was very inspiring and the event was ended with a final prayer.
MYSORE – A long awaited celebration at the evening school took place on January 14th to encourage school going children who frequent Don Guanella Evening School in Harohalli. All the villagers and the panchayat leaders were invited for this simple New Year and Pongal celebration. The program began with a prayer song and followed by a variety of cultural and traditional amusements presented by the children. The celebration was really an opportunity for them to exhibit their talents. Parents were happy to see their kids performing dances, skits and singing. To encourage the children, gifts were distributed. Fathers were honored with a small gift for their service. The teachers who help the kids in their academic career were also honored. The Pongal feast ended with a dance performance by the brothers and evening school kids.
Chennai – Don Guanella Major Seminary was glad to celebrate the feast of St. Louis Guanella on October 24th. In view of the solemn feast, the flag was hoisted by the Provincial Superior on October 15th and the novena began. Each day was organized with different themes and by a different resource person of the community. Different groups animated the nine days, including the Guanellian Lay Movement, Guanellian Youth Movement, Don Guanella Special School, Don Guanella Evening School and Don Guanella Major Seminary under the direction of the community fathers. On the final day there was a solemn celebration which included the religious from neighboring communities, GLM, GYM, Beneficiaries and other well wishers of our mission. The Mass was celebrated by Fr. Provincial. After Mass a festive meal was shared with all the guests.
Bangalore – On August 23rd Vicar General Fr. Nico arrived at Guanella Preethi Nivas. The Don Guanella Evening School children welcomed him with a welcoming song and a bouquet. The children were very happy, Fr. Nico also was very happy to see them. The next evening, August 24th, he entertained them with his beautiful singing and guitar playing. The children enjoyed his singing as well as his presence. He provided chocolate for all the children. He said good-bye in Italian, he assured his prayers for the children and he also asked them to pray for his Guanellian mission and service.
Bangalore – Don Guanella Evening School celebrated Independence Day joyfully with the oratory children on August 19th. The children participated in many events, especially enjoying the parade. The Chief Guest hoisted the national flag and then everyone recited the pledge of our nation before singing the national anthem. Subsequently the chief Guest, fathers and children gathered in the tent of love. Then children performed their talents, and the elderly were brought to the program. The Chief Guest addressed his inspiring speech to the children. To close the event, delicious snacks were provided for the children and all the spectators.
Chennai – The 72nd Independence Day was celebrated at DGES and gladdened the hearts of the children on August 15th. Fr. J. Samson, the Superior and Rector of Don Guanella Major Seminary, was the guest of honor who inspired the children during his address to take pride in the wealth of the nation along with the traditional respect for their elders, to become studious, to enhance themselves in freedom and to assist those who need personal and monetary help in order to uplift everyone in society. The day was made colorful by the various performances of the children like speeches on the freedom fighters, dances, and fancy dress. When the program ended, the children were sent home with cool drinks and sweets.
Mysore – Don Guanella Evening School celebrated Independence Day on August 15th in Harohalli. The local Panchayat president and other councilors presided over the program. The children welcomed the gathering and honored the guests with flowers before presenting different types of programs like dancing and giving speeches about India and the freedom fighters. Brothers from Preethiya Sevakaru performed a dance for the national anthem. At the end of the program children were given cakes and sweets.
Chennai – Suppose Christmas was celebrated with the Don Guanella Evening School students December 22nd. Fr. Soosai Rathinam, Provincial Superior was the guest of honor. He delivered the message that sharing gives true joy and everlasting happiness like Santa Claus (St. Nicholas). Every student was given a blanket for a Christmas gift. The celebration was grand and enjoyable with colorful dances and drama performances by the students. The celebration concluded with the exchange of gifts with ‘chrisma christi friends.’
Chennai – Don Guanella Evening School inauguration for this scholastic year 2017-18 was held on June 27th. Fr. Samson, Rector of Don Guanella Major Seminary, opened the event by lighting the lamp representing the light of Christ. The event included a speech by the chief guest where he asked the children to “gain knowledge that can never be stolen but rather shared with others.” Some of the students delivered speeches on the theme ‘How to be a successful student in the current scenario.’ Fr. A. C. Perianayagasamy appreciated their work and distributed prizes to the students from our evening school who secured high marks in their board exams last year. The program ended with the colorful songs and dances of the students and in the spirit of happiness snacks were distributed before the children went home.
Chennai – Sound activity leads to sound living. The world is too busy, people keep themselves busy to the extent of losing their health. As a part of the academic plan at Don Guanella Evening School they held the annual sports meet for evening school children. There were different events like drawing, singing, story writing and many outdoor games. The event, which brought the spirit of happiness and togetherness, ended by awarding prizes. The children were very happy to express their thanks to the DGMS community brothers for their help and support.
