Ministry Gives Bread and the Lord

Dindigul – A new ministry of giving bread and the Lord to the poor, elderly & differently-abled personalities began on January 20th at Guanella Illam, Kallathupatti. The ministry of giving a midday meal on Sundays for the poor began with fifteen people from the area irrespective of religion. People were given space to spend time with one another and share joyous moments with each other. A few moments of prayer and worship was conducted by Fr. Lawrence. The meal was offered by a volunteer. The people were very happy and went home satisfied.

Celebrating Vietnamese New Year

dsc_0069Ho Chi Minh City – Vietnamese New Year is a special day for all the people of Vietnam. It is interesting to notice how Vietnamese people give respect to the elderly and get blessings from them. The Servants of Charity celebrated Mass for the elderly poor people and gave them lucky money to help with their needs.
Fr. Felicks visited the family of Br. Khiet bringing greetings for the New Year. Fr. Felicks received special blessings from his grandfather who is more than 85 years old.

Divine Providence Daycare Center

Vatluru – The Servants of Charity run a daycare center for the abandoned elderly of the Vatluru area. Thirty abandoned aged people receive benefits, spend time praying and enjoy a midday meal. They are also sent home with food for the evening. Medical care is provided when they are in need. Indian man serves a disabled youthMadurai – The beginning of Guanellian missions in India is the Madurai Mission.  On September 4th this year, a new mission for wandering, aged and mentally ill persons began. This house is called “GUANELLA KARUNAI ILLAM”. Things are going well at the center with seven people, brought in by car and bike, to care for. There are many more deserving poor people nearby who want to come to the center. St. Guanella’s dreams are coming true in India at Madurai. Please pray for this new mission.

Elderly beneficiaries in IndiaChennai – A new ministry for abandoned elderly at Don Guanella Major seminary officially began on July 7th. The seminarians entertained with songs, stories and moral lessons. Competitions were held and prizes distributed to bring a little joy to their lives. Mass was celebrated by Fr. S. Antony Lourduraj, community superior, and Fr. Rajesh. The lamp was lit by everyone, signifying the unification of diversity. The event ended with a delicious meal served by fathers and brothers. The main purpose of this ministry is to bring aged people together, increasing their joy in Christ and loving and caring for each other. They will improve their life style, prepare for a holy death and their medical needs will be met each Sunday.
